El Increíble Plan de Mr. Pike is a short animation made in collaboration with Olga Capdevila and Pol Solsona, created to announce the arrival of new futuristic bicycle parking spaces across Barcelona.
The visual language is loose and expressive: thick outlines, elastic characters, drawing that feels like it was made in one continuous gesture. Mr. Pike has a plan. It involves bicycles. It does not go smoothly.

THE PLUNGE

The Jump

One sequence. Every artist in the collective contributed one frame, drawn in their own style, without instruction on how it should look. No shared aesthetic, no visual brief, no uniformity imposed from above.The result is a shot that changes with every frame. Different line weights, different palettes, different ways of understanding the same body in the same moment. What holds it together is the movement, not the style. The action stays continuous while the visual language underneath it keeps shifting.It could have been a simple transition between two scenes. Instead it became the most honest thing in the film: proof that the collective isn't a concept, it's a practice. Every artist brought their own obsessions to the same four seconds of screen time.That's what the collective actually is: not a shared aesthetic, but a shared willingness to work inside the same frame. The Jump made that visible in 24 frames per second.

Design Process

The visual identity of Durrell didn't arrive fully formed. It was the result of an extended research process involving three artists from the collective: Maliboo, Malota, and Studio Mostro.From the beginning, the objective was to find a visual language that felt specific to the piece, not borrowed from an existing aesthetic. The process moved through multiple directions: organic forms against geometric structures, soft atmospheric palettes against bold and dense compositions. Each iteration narrowed the field.Color, texture, and surface treatment were tested in parallel with character design and compositional systems. Some directions were discarded early. Others evolved slowly through collective feedback and visual dialogue until the right balance between fluidity and control became clear.The final aesthetic emerged from that layered process. Not from a single decision, but from many: each one made with the tone of the piece in mind.

DURRELL

A short film produced by Brut Works, conceived as a homage to Gerald Durrell's "My Family and Other Animals". Directed by Maliboo.
Between commercial projects, the studio makes room for work with no brief and no client. Durrell was one of those moments: a collective effort built around a book, a world, and the question of what visual language it deserved.
The source material set the tone. Durrell's writing is precise and affectionate, full of observed detail and dry humor. The film needed a visual register that could hold that same quality without illustrating it literally. That's where the research started.

THAT GIRL

That Girl is a collaborative animation by Maliboo and Andrew Khosravani, created as a visual interpretation of Moon Panda's music. The viewer drifts through the ocean into far-off worlds where ethereal spirits coexist, fight, and find each other.
The visual language is textural and atmospheric: grainy surfaces, a palette that moves between soft pink skies and deep blue, illustration that feels both precise and dreamlike. The animation expands the emotional space of the music rather than illustrating it literally.

Maliboo is the alter ego of animation director David Borrull. Based in Barcelona after years in London working as an art director and animator across production houses. His work is known for elegant design and precise animation, developed for clients including Oreo, Mentos, Danone, Mastercard, and Animal Planet.
