Part of a three-film campaign for Facebook Pay, produced with Special Guest. Each film tells a different story about sending money between people who know each other.
In this one, a friend sends $0.02 with a very specific message: shave. The scenario is small and specific, which is exactly what makes it work. Facebook Pay as something you use between people who are comfortable enough to say what they actually think.
The illustration style was Facebook's own, animated for the first time by Brut Works. Every frame drawn by hand, the characters staying true to the painterly quality of the original static style.
We developed this campaign for FB own paying system alongside with SpecialGuest. Besides being completely up our alley with this handmade/cel animation approach also isthe first time this brand new FB signature Illustration style gets animated! Such an honor and a fun time as always with FB Team.

COVID 19 MYTH BUSTING

Myth Busting is an animated series produced for an open call by Talenthouse and the United Nations, made during the pandemic. The brief: take the misinformation circulating about COVID and dismantle it, one myth at a time.
The studio treated it as a collective exercise. A series of short pieces, each one tackling a different myth with the same visual approach: loose, handcrafted, direct. The kind of work that needed to travel fast and be understood immediately, without losing the character that makes Brut Works what it is.
A project made at a strange time, by a collective that found it genuinely useful to have something specific to make.

WHEN I SING

When I Sing is a self-initiated short film conceived and directed by Malota, produced by Brut Works. It starts from something personal: the way singing can lift you out of a state of mind and take you somewhere else entirely.
The film follows that experience frame by frame. A single character, facing the camera, moving through the emotional arc of a singer: the vulnerability of exposing your voice, the resistance, and what happens when you finally stop holding back.
The film works through tension rather than explanation. The character doesn't perform for the viewer: she endures, resists, and eventually surrenders to the music. The drawing style is deliberately spare, just enough to carry the emotion. The less it explains, the more the viewer recognises.
Made with traditional frame by frame animation and original voices and instruments recorded for the piece. Selected at Animac and Anima festivals.

Mar Hernández, known as Malota, starts every project from the concept. The visual language follows the idea, not the other way around. Her work is colourful, detailed, and optimistic, with a personal style that stays consistent across illustration, design, music, and ceramics.
